New Jersey forbids motorists to refuel by themselves
As of 2019,
New Jersey is the only state in the United States that completely prohibits motorists from refueling themselves, and the only state in the union that still requires all refueling to be done by staff.
A law that has lasted for more than 70 years is still in force. On such a cold day, drivers are allowed to stay in the car while service personnel fill up at the gas station.
